You can read the report here.

The key evaluation questions focused on documenting the types of private sector engagements (PSEs) in which UNHCR has been involved between 2016 and 2019; the perspectives of UNHCR and private sector partners on the desired objectives, challenges and risks from said engagements; and lessons learned from similar agencies.

Moira V. Faul participates at launch of Geneva Science-Policy Interface at UN Geneva

The Director-General of UNOG, Michael Møller and UniGe Rector, Yves Flueckiger addressed the need to strengthen the interface between academia and 'International Geneva', the family of UN and international NGO and think tank organisations based in Geneva. The Geneva Science-Policy Interface team brought together representatives of the League of European Research Universities and many other global research university networks to discuss ways forward in supporting global decision-making for sustainable development with evidence and research.

In a recent editorial, Moira V. Faul shows (with Kathryn Oliver) that evidence use in policy is essentially a relational process, and takes place in social settings. For this Special Issue, we asked how can this variety of network approaches contribute to our understanding of how evidence comes to be constructed and is used in policy and practice. There are significant gaps in our understanding of how relationships influence evidence use; how networks have been theorised and operationalised; and the methods we can use to investigate network structure, ties and meaning. In this special issue, we bring together cutting-edge research and commentary on some of these questions,to enable a more holistic understanding of the potential contributions of networks and network analysis to understanding the use of evidence.

Dr Moira V. Faul will act as discussant book launch: "Multistakeholder Governance and Democracy: A Global Challenge", with Dr. Harris Gleckman

12.30 - 2pm, 15 October 2018
P1-847, Maison de la Paix
Organized by the Global Health Center and the Albert Hirschman Center on Democracy, Graduate Institute, Geneva

"Multistakeholder governance is proposed as the way forward in global governance. For some leaders in civil society and government who are frustrated with the lack of power of the UN system and multilateralism it is seen as an attractive alternative; others, particularly in the corporate world, see multistakeholder governance as offering a more direct hand and potentially a legitimate role in national and global governance.

This book examines how the development of multistakeholderism poses a challenge to multilateralism and democracy. Using a theoretical, historical perspective it describes how the debate on global governance evolved and what working principles of multilateralism are under threat. From a sociological perspective, the book identifies the organizational beliefs of multistakeholder groups and the likely change in the roles that leaders in government, civil society, and the private sector will face as they evolve into potential global governors. From a practical perspective, the book addresses the governance issues which organizations and individuals should assess before deciding to participate in or support a particular multistakeholder group.

Given the current emphasis on the participation of multiple actors in the Sustainable Development Goals, this book will have wide appeal across policy-making and professional sectors involved in negotiations and governance at all levels. It will also be essential reading for students studying applied governance."

In this special issue, we selected those papers which made the strongest contribution to understanding how networks and network analysis can help us to understand how evidence is used in policy and practice.
